BOCOBONET was registered as the Network for Community based Organisations in April 1999 and has established an office in Gaborone. The organization aims to promote the interests of its members involved in Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM) by playing a mediating and advocating role between communities and service providers, including Government of Botswana, the private sector, NGOs and training institutes.

Its objectives are to:
1. Facilitate the sharing of information on CBNRM between CBOs
2. Disseminate critical information regarding CBNRM related policy development and implementation, available support mechanisms and training opportunities
3. Act as an advocate for CBOs involved in CBNRM to Government, NGOs and other stakeholders
· support and co-ordinate capacity building and related training of its member CBOs
· ensure that appropriate technical services and advice required by member CBOs are delivered

The Board is further engaged in consolidating and regulating the membership among the community-based organisations involved in CBNRM in Botswana to become a truly representative association, firmly rooted and financially self-sufficient.

Current activities of the Network are:
1.To build up an information and communication network between member CBOs and all stakeholders involved in CBNRM;
2.To generate financial resources required for the consolidation of the Network and growth into a fully fledged organisation;
3. To participate on behalf of CBOs in CBNRM related discussions and policy development and establish linkages with all stakeholders to get recognition for the mediating and advocating role of BOCOBONET;
4.To build the capacity of its member CBOs through training in empowerment and to co-ordinate access to other specific training and technical assistance.
